  1. Cristian Rusconi says:

I am a 52-year-old ‘kid’ who for years has suffered from severe back pain, which has always been treated with painkillers or injections by various doctors who asserted that ‘an operation would be useless’. They attributed my pain to my being slightly overweight (178 cm tall – weight 150 kg).

In July 2023 my back froze up; I was in immense pain and unable to work or do my regular activities. A friend advised me to consult with Dr. Capuano, who immediately, much to my surprise, saw me in his medical studio in Como. I had never met a man who was so kind and so humble… The patient-doctor barrier fell down immediately; he was a friend. He told me, ‘I don’t care about your weight’, I’ll take away your pain and you’ll walk like before. He further described my situation and immediately put me on the waiting list for surgery.

On 26 March I had surgery at the Villa Berica Clinic (VI), on 27 March he had me walking, and on 28 March I was home. It doesn’t seem real to me – but I feel great now. Thanks again Dr. Capuano, my angel, and thanks to his super-assistants in the office.

  2. MAURO ALMICI says:

I am 70 years old, and I would still like to do various sports that I’ve done in the past, perhaps even ski mountaineering and kitesurfing. Seven years ago, while being treating for an expelled hernia with oxygen-ozone therapy, I was diagnosed with a level L4-L5 anterolisthesis. I was convinced that I could safely continue doing sport with only conservative therapies. However, I was in pain and compensated for the pain with mild pain medicines. In the end, the treatments were merely palliative; that is, they only delayed my pathology from becoming more serious.

Exhausted by the pain and disheartened by the impossibility of carrying out my daily activities, and my recreational ones as well, I turned to Dr. Christian Capuano (who was recommended to me by several doctors and acquaintances).

After a series of oxygen-ozone therapy sessions, which certainly helped to relieve the pain, on 18 March I was operated on at the Bra Clinic by Dr. Capuano, who was assisted by Dr. Francesco Carnini. The next day, I got out of bed and went down to the bar with my wife. It seemed so simple, as if instead of having undergone lumbar arthrodesis surgery, I had removed… a callus. Now, fifteen days after the operation, I am fine and can hardly repress the temptation to fully resume the activities I abandoned 9 months ago.

What can I say… seven wasted years clinging to the fear of an operation? Yes, I wish I had met Dr. Capuano much earlier. He is extremely competent and well-prepared, very professional, and precise in his communication with the patient. All together, these were guarantees right from the start. Yet, the sensitivity and dedication he showed me from our first meeting to the phone call made to my wife after surgery to reassure her, made me feel… privileged. Although I was certain of all this, it is nice to hear that so many of his other patients feel similarly privileged under his care. This is Dr. Cristian Capuano. Thanks again doctor. Thanks also to his kind assistants in the medical studio in Como and to staff of the Bra Clinic.

I am a lady who is no longer young, but neither would I define myself as old. I come from the province of Ferrara, where my ordeal began on 08/04/2021 with my first appointment to an orthopedic specialist (I was suffering from severe back pain in the lumbar area). I left the medical office very disappointed.

Then, on 22/06/2021, I had a second appointment, in my city, with a well-known neurosurgeon. (Note: all these appointments were paid for privately.) This doctor sent me away in just a few minutes – with painkillers and supplements. On 12/05/2022, I tried going to a physiotherapist, and followed various recommended therapies, such as a thoracic brace, and insoles – all without results.

From 24/11/2021 to 09/06/2022 I underwent pain therapy treatment with another doctor, and I have had two surgical procedures; the first was a one-day hospitalization and the second time was a two-day stay. In the meantime, I had various injections, with no results, and I got worse and worse. It had now become impossible for me to walk, excruciating pain made me hunch over, and I wanted to give up. From 05/09/2022 to 12/12/2022 I tried another well-known neurosurgeon in my city, who gave me more injections and increasingly heavy painkillers. I no longer had a social life. Then, on 27/12/2022 I went to another orthopedist, and I was switched onto morphine, to no effect. On 22/02/2023 I saw yet another neurosurgeon from Ferrara, who dismissed me saying ‘surgery is not indicated’. As such, I closed the Ferrara chapter (which I wouldn’t recommend to anyone) and I started doing research in other cities.

That was when my luck turned. I saw Dr. Christian Capuano’s video on YouTube; I was fascinated by him because he seemed to be talking directly to me. I immediately felt that he was my only hope.

On 09/05/2023 I had my first appointment with him at the Villa Berica Clinic, in Vicenza. It was there that, for the first time, I heard of ‘mechanical pain’, and I left the appointment absolutely thrilled. From that moment on, I put myself into his care with unlimited trust. The doctor-patient barrier almost didn’t exist, he was more like a friend who was always available from that moment on. All this was backed up by his personal secretary Sabrina’s attentiveness; she was helpful in every way from then on. I went to my second appointment with Dr. Capuano on 04/07/2023, as my situation was notably worse. He put me on the waiting list for surgery, my only chance to return to life.

Finally, on 02/25/2024, I was admitted to the Villa Berica clinic and on 26 February I entered the operating room for surgery: Total anesthesia, micro-surgical technique (for extensive osteo-ligamental decompression of the spinal canal), a L4-L5 foraminotomy, and lumbar arthrodesis with the interposition of interbody cage.

When I woke up, Dr. Capuano reassured me that everything had gone well and then called my partner to tell him that I was awake, and everything was fine (this kind attention is not to be taken lightly). The next morning, the Dr. came to help me get up and walk; it seemed like a dream to me. I was discharged on 29 February and during my three days of hospitalization the Dr. was always available for consultation. His words of encouragement calmed me a lot.

Now that I’m home, I’m just fine and I haven’t needed any help. I’ve always done everything myself… For now, I just have to concentrate on walking. It’s been just over a month and I’m up to 2000 steps or more (my maximum is 2900 steps). Having hardly walked for three years, I am very pleased. Also, I’m no longer out of breath. On 24 April I’m going for a check-up… where the Dr. will give me a treatment plan for physiotherapy. The journey will be long but I’m well and happy!

What can I say about Dr. Capuano, he is one-of-a-kind; always present. When I called with a question he answered right away with a voice-message soothing my doubts. ‘Problems resolved’, this could be your motto… With immense gratitude!!

  4. Roberto F. says:

On 6 July 2022 I had my first visit with Dr. Christian Capuano. After viewing the MRI of my spine on the screen he immediately asked me: ‘What do you see that’s abnormal?’. I replied: ‘Well, I see an entire lumbosacral area that is much whiter than the other areas.’ At that point, Dr. Capuano exploded: ‘You are right! You were able to identify the problem yourself!’. An immediate diagnosis followed: Severe L5-S1 disc disease, with a priority indication for surgical intervention. The doctor got up, headed like lightning into his secretary’s office, and immediately put me on the waiting list for the operation.

He then explained to me, in detail and without hesitation, the situation in which patients like me find themselves, suffering from chronic back pain for over twenty years, with progressive and inexorably disabling consequences. A perfect picture of many people like me.

I have learned, over time, to know his character; his extensive medical preparation, his commitment to his patients, and dedication and courtesy that are truly difficult to find nowadays. But, behind the tranquil calm with which he welcomes patients who are suffering, the volcano of his Sicilian temperament burns, indignant at the way things are done in the Italian national healthcare system, which proceeds huffing and puffing like a steam engine, in our times of high-speed trains. ‘They don’t even diagnose you! This is the scandal!’. The doctor’s words stuck firmly in my mind.

As time has passed, I have come to understand that Dr. Capuano, with the meticulous precision of his diagnoses, offers those who place their deserved trust in him, not only impressive surgical skills, but also the ability to relate empathically to each patient: This constitutes a set of qualities which make him a true professional.

On 4 October 2022 I underwent spinal decompression and lumbar arthrodesis surgery at levels L5-S1 at the Villa Berica Clinic in Vicenza. In the post-surgical phase, after carefully and scrupulously following Dr. Capuano’s instructions for physical therapy treatments, painful symptoms appeared in my sacral area. I had been subtly coexisting with this pain for some years, like a fighter who takes the enemy right into their home. Here too, a diagnosis was immediate: sacroiliitis. Dr. Capuano, having noted my resistance to medicines administered by infiltration, prescribed a new surgical operation for September 2023. The aim was to further stabilize my posture, taking into consideration biomechanical and systemic elements, which I greatly appreciated.

The first operation had brilliantly solved 70% of the problems I had, but to resolve the remaining 30%, it was necessary to stabilize the pelvic zone as well. As such, on 18 March 2024, I underwent sacroiliac arthrodesis surgery carried out by Dr. Capuano at the Bra Clinic. 10 days after the operation, I am maintaining an upright position well, I feel ‘lighter’ and more balanced in the way I walk, and one person has even commented that I seemed taller!

I want to thank Dr. Capuano and all his assistants. He is not only an absolute professional, and a ‘mind’ that Italian medicine should appreciate, but also a true man. By this, I am referring to the well-known distinction of human subgenres described by Leonardo Sciascia. Most of the time our healthcare is in the hands of small men, half-men, and quacks. In short, it’s an immense swamp of incompetent people, and even worse, of profiteers who speculate on the pain of others.

However, there are also many men (and women, it’s not an issue of gender) who honor their profession every day. On top of all of I would like to place, as an ideal figure, but also as a concrete example, Dr. Christian Capuano. Thanks to him I can now aspire to a quality of life that I had forgotten even existed. It is no coincidence that the etymology of the verb ‘to aspire’ is very similar to the verb ‘to hope’ (in Italian). With perseverance, you can climb even the most inaccessible mountains.

  5. Maurizio Di Francescantonio says:

I will share my experience here to recognize the skill, professionalism, and humanity of Dr. Capuano. I was operated on almost a month ago for severe L4-L5 disc disease. Since the second day after the operation, I have no longer felt the pain that I had been carrying with me for several years. My recovery was excellent, every day I have got better and better.

Above all, I would like to thank Dr. Capuano, all the medical staff of the Villa Berica Clinic, and the staff of his studio in Como.

  6. Cinzia Della Noce says:

Dr. Capuano recently operated on my 82-year-old mother: The day after the operation she was already back on her feet!! Finally, all the pain in her legs and back disappeared and she found her smile again. In addition, thanks to the spinal anesthesia she did not have any post-operative problems either.

Capuano is a doctor with great professionalism and enormous humanity, rare gifts nowadays, but fundamental qualities when it comes to health problems, especially with patients who are no longer young.

The assistance of his staff was also impeccable in organizing appointments.

Heartfelt thanks to all of you…

  7. Carlo Moretti says:

Just three weeks ago I was operated on by Dr. Capuano. I had a discectomy and lumbar arthrodesis with the interposition of a cage. I am very pleased about this initial post-operative period and for the surprising speed with which I am returning to health and to my life (both physically and mentally).

Before this important operation, I tried a series of conservative therapies; oxygen-ozone therapy, physiotherapy, and clinical observation, all under the wise direction of Dr. Capuano.

Thank you doctor so much for the care and attention you have given to me; such uncommonly good care, thanks to your preparation and your constant presence. You ALWAYS provided complete medical explanations and words of support, with great humanity, even in the most difficult moments. You knew how to respond to the thousands of doubts that torment a patient’s thoughts, without ever trivializing them.

The journey is not over yet… now I’m doing physiotherapy in the doctor’s studio, the final phase of a well-planned and perfectly successful operation. But, I am confident because I know that Dr. Capuano will always be present to give me any support I need. Many thanks..

  8. Margherita Proietti says:

Infinite thanks to you Dr. Capuano; I thank you for giving me the opportunity to keep on going strong in my life, but finally without the pain that prevented me from living well.

I will never forget his professionalism and humanity. I had surgery on 15 January 2024, and the doctor himself came to my room on 16 January to get me out of bed and help me take my first steps down the corridor
I also want to thank the office staff; they were attentive, punctual, and precise.
Thanks again with warmth and much respect.

  9. Rosa Maria Lesta Abuin says:

Good morning. My name is Rosa and I am a very active 55-year-old. Some years ago I was diagnosed with a ‘herniated’ disc and have been treated with simple painkillers and anti-inflammatory medicines with limited success.

When I met ‘Christian’, because that what he humbly prefers to be called, he took on my case and guided me with professionalism, humanity, and experience. In short, I soon understood that I had suffered needlessly for years.

I had surgery on 10 January 2024 for CIRCUMFERENTIAL ARTHRODESIS using ALIF at level L5-S1, and L4-L5-S1 stabilization with a pelvic realignment. The operation was very successful even though it was far from routine.

The next day I was already walking through the corridors of the Bra Clinic. Thanks to the clinic staff for their competence, presence, and smiles!

What can I say?? Dr. Capuano took an oath years ago, which he still carries forth with conviction. He is an exquisite person, professional but humble, and always helpful. I thank you from the bottom of my heart Christian, yours is a true vocation!

  10. Roberto Leandro says:

I was operated on by the singularly excellent Dr. Capuano in January for a decompression of the spinal canal as well as L3-L4-L5 arthrosis. He has the great skill of listening and one immediately senses the scope of his knowledge from the first visit. He is empathetic – like the others in his staff.

The operation was a perfect success; the next day I was climbing the stairs… practically unbelievable.

Many thanks to him and to his entourage; everyone was kind, punctual and prepared. Dr. Capuano is one-of-a-kind!

  11. Daniela says:

I’m Daniela, and I’ve known ‘MY’ Dr. Christian Capuano for many years. He operated on my dad some time ago and was the only one who took the responsibility of doing it. He got him back on his feet after just three days.
Then, he started following me and my cervical problems. Last week I underwent surgery at the Città di Bra Clinic and everything went well. Despite my initial fear when the doctor explained the operation to me, I immediately felt reassured and in excellent hands, so I faced the whole procedure calmly. Dr. Christian Capuano is not only an excellent Neurosurgeon, but a person of indescribable humanity. He speaks to you frankly but with such compassion that you feel completely reassured: This makes him kind of ‘SUPERMAN’.
Heartfelt thanks to ‘MY’ super Dr. and to his staff. Special thanks to Sabrina, who is always very

  12. Monica Radaelli says:

After being treated for 8 years at the Galeazzi Hospital for a level 5 discopathy – without beneficial results, I decided to turn to Dr. Capuano. He immediately understood the gravity of my situation. He prescribed oxygen-ozone therapy and painkillers and put me on the list for decompression surgery of the spinal canal and L4/L5 arthrodesis with the interposition of a 9 mm trabeculated titanium interbody cage. Well, 13 days later, I no longer know what back pain is. Goodbye painkillers, morphine and cortisone. I recommend Dr. Capuano to all those patients who have been suffering for years, like me, because he always finds a way to make the pain disappear. He is very kind and makes himself available to his patients. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

  13. Demetrio Chilà says:

You are an excellent professional who combines competence and experience with considerable conversational empathy! You instil confidence and optimism from the first visit – fundamental elements for starting a decisive therapeutic path! Congratulations to this neurosurgeon, a valid representative of the extraordinary medical specialists of our country.

  14. Barbara Tevere says:

Thank you, Doctor. In September I had sacroiliac arthrodesis performed by Dr. Capuano at the clinic in Bra. I really have to thank you for the professionalism, and above all the humanity, with which you reassured me before and after the operation; you told me afterwards, in the afternoon when you returned to the clinic, that the operation had gone very well. You are a neurosurgeon with a capital N. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
    Barbara

  15. Paolo Carà says:

A good neurosurgeon must have eagle eyes, be lion-hearted, and have hands like a woman.
However, Dr. Capuano, besides his surgical abilities, has wonderful people skills and knows how to communicate empathetically.
His motto, I dare say, is: ‘the person always comes first (which shouldn’t be taken for granted in a physician).
This rule is followed by all of his staff as well: Sabrina makes sure everything is perfect – from start to finish.
My grade for the Doctor and his staff: Excellent with honors.
    Thanks for everything.
    Paolo Carà
